Folia Orientalia
Folia Orientalia is an international, interdisciplinary scholarly journal published by the Oriental Studies Commission of the Kraków Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences (PAS). The journal covers broadly defined studies on Asia and Africa, with particular emphasis on linguistics, literary studies, history, archaeology, cultural studies, religious studies, and art history. Its thematic scope focuses mainly on West, South, and Central Asia, as well as Africa.
The restructuring of Folia Orientalia (2021–2025), including the appointment of new international members to the Editorial Board and the International Advisory Board, has significantly enhanced the journal’s visibility and recognition in the global academic community.
The current volume (62/2025) includes contributions from scholars affiliated with prestigious institutions such as the University of Cambridge (United Kingdom), Aix-Marseille University (France), Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic), the University of Cagliari (Italy), the University of Haifa (Israel), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), and Tel Aviv University (Israel). Over the past five volumes, the proportion of international authors has reached approximately 95%.
According to a recent Scopus report submitted to the editorial office in October of this year, Folia Orientalia is described as a well-established and highly regarded journal within the academic community. This is reflected in a substantial number of publications by a diverse group of researchers and strong citation visibility, demonstrating the journal’s solid position within its disciplines. The journal holds significant scholarly value, as evidenced by citations in other Scopus-indexed journals. It covers thematic areas relevant to the humanities and social sciences and maintains clearly defined aims, scope, and editorial policies fully consistent with its published content.
Over the past year, the journal has recorded a significant increase in citations, rising from 747 to 930.
